Médecins Sans Frontières and Sisters Hospitallers new collaboration

A Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) delegation headed by Saima Zai, Activity Coordinator, and Hyppolite Kalala, Project Coordinator, visited Benedict Menni Health Center. They experienced firsthand the activities we do and the approach that is carried out in cases of mental illness based on psychotherapies, drug-therapy and rehabilitation activities.

The activities carried out by MSF in mental health are centred in outpatient facilities and sometimes they require hospitalization in specialized units such as ours.

The admission criteria and patient referral procedures were explained to the MSF representatives, who expressed their appreciation for the quality of services provided. They also congratulated us on the success of the rehabilitation treatment, especially for the results obtained from stays shorter than 90 days and the high number of follow-up consultations of patients after they have been discharged from the hospital.

We hope that this new collaboration will be fruitful for both institutions. MSF and Sisters Hospitallers have a lead role in the Mental Health Technical Coordination Committee of the Ministry of Health of Liberia.
