Sisters Hospitallers has raised more than £400k to date for the Saint Benedict Menni Health Center in Monrovia (Liberia) thanks to the We Are Like You Project and the English Province of the Congregation.
The We Are Like You Project is based on the collaboration of two different centres owned by the Sisters Hospitallers: Aita Menni Hospital in Spain and the Saint Benedict Menni Health Center in Liberia. The origins, goals, achievements and funding to date can now be read on the first WALY report. The project was conceived to treat patients with mental illness and/or suffering from substance abuse and intellectual disability in Liberia.
The money raised by WALY (over £350K) comes from international and Spanish organisations, NGOs, companies, banks, fundraising events and concerts, and individual donations. The English Province of the Sisters Hospitallers –to which the St Benedict Menni Health Center belongs, has donated nearly £65k, raised thanks to events, raffles and individual donations among others.
Some stories behind donations are really impressive. For example, one of the volunteers at our care homes fasts two days a week and gives away the money she would spend on food; and the same person also donated her holiday money.
