St Teresa’s Christmas Party 2016

Anita, Activities Coordinator at St. Teresa’s Home

The annual Christmas party at St Teresa’s home was celebrated on 16th of December and was a lovely, joyful and memorable day. In the morning the residents, dressed in beautiful festive clothes, gathered in the lounge together with sisters and staff and had a glass of sherry and mince pie.

Afterwards there was a small reading, many positive wishes and a few Christmas carols sung by everyone. Residents enjoyed the time relaxing, chatting and remembering funny moments from the past years.

Residents, staff and sisters had lunch together, enjoying a glass of warm and spicy mulled wine and Christmas music.

With everyone being in a festive mood by noon, the talented kitchen staff brought the specially prepared Christmas lunch – rich, colourful and tasty. Residents, staff and sisters had lunch together, enjoying a glass of warm and spicy mulled wine and Christmas music. Lots of toasts could be heard, wishes for health and happiness and the sisters delighted us with many dances, cheered by staff and residents.

After the delicious dessert, residents were in for another surprise – Father Christmas, bringing all big bags with presents for everyone, including the staff members! Santa, Sara and Sr Isabel said inspiring words and thanked the staff for all their hard and continuous work, always done with kindness and a smile.

It was a day of never ending surprises. The Blakes Hotel across the street had promised Sr Isabel and Sara they would bring professional singers to the party! Eight members of the hotel, the general manager, Ian Telford, and four brilliant singers came in and brought homemade mince pies, little angel shaped cookies and bottles of exquisite sherry.

Residents, one by one thanked the sisters, the manager and the staff for organising an amazing party to celebrate and remember.

When the group Esquire began to sing, we were all captured by their alluring voices. They selected the most favourite Christmas carols and spiced the performance with jokes in between so won the residents immediately.

Unable to resist the lead, everyone joined the singing and the big lounge was lively and vibrating, accommodating residents, families, sisters, our staff, the staff member from Blakes hotel and singers altogether.

At the end of the party we presented Blakes Hotel staff with a basket full of presents prepared by the residents and the lovely choir with wine and chocolates.

By the end of the day residents were full with impressions, memories and in a very happy mood. One by one thanked the sisters, the manager and the staff for organising an amazing party to celebrate and remember. That night, they all slept really well and none of them woke up till the following morning!
