“The difficulties helped to strengthened my faith”

Sr Margaret was born in Ghana 56 years ago. In 1984 she joined Sisters Hospitallers, inspired by the way Sisters at Foso Hospital were committed to the sick and the needy.

As a Hospitaller, she has worked in Liberia, which helped her to open her eyes to suffering people and see the hand of God work in people’s lives. This has broadened her sense of God as well.
She is passionate about seeing people happy through my small ways; be it sharing of the word, prayer or even smiling with them.

This year she had the opportunity to be part of the special formation group the General House in Rome together with the other Sisters from around the world that celebrate their 25th anniversary. She went to Ciempozuelos, Madrid, our motherhouse for the annual retreat and renewal of vows and celebration.

She also went to Dinan, France, where St. Benedict Menni died. Back home, in Assin Foso, she celebrated it in St. Benedict Menni Chapel with the community, staff, and family.

Margaret Afful celebrated the Silver Jubilee – 25 years dedicated to the service of God as a Hospitaller sister. The mass was held at St. Benito Chapel in our hospital in Assin Foso, Ghana. It was a wonderful and joyful occasion with our churchgoers, co-workers, sisters, the family of our patients, and relatives of Sr Margaret.

Four Priests celebrated the Eucharist and during the mass, we danced as a manifestation of gratefulness to God for the gift of Sr Margaret’s life and vocation in the church.

Sr Margaret shared some words of gratitude: “I feel strongly the comfort of the Holy Spirit, has sustained me in my fidelity, for which I stand here today celebrating 25 years of His faithfulness. It’s not out of self-love that I have been faithful but rather by perseverance and out of love for the Lord. This Silver Jubilee holds significant memories as a Hospitaller sister for me.”
