In Collaboration with the SVP

The Sisters from Footherley Hall have been supporting the Society of St. Vincent the Paul (SVP ) group from Holy Trinity Church, Sutton Coldfield for several years, donating items that have been distributed primarily to migrants. On hearing from the SVP they are now not only helping migrants but also many others who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic and are finding it difficult to sustain their families, all the staff contributed to the solidarity project and with the amount collected we are sending food every week.

Our very own Pirate Fancy Dress Day

At Footherley Hall Care Home we had our own Fancy Dress Day! Captainess Silver Toni and Shipwreck Sue threw down the anchor and landed at Footherley Hall to a ‘Ha Ha Me Hearties’ quote of the day from our resident Rosie ‘now you’re a sight for sore eyes aren’t you!’ It was a day of ‘hearty’ fun and a complete ‘barrel’ of laughs!

Sisters Hospitallers in Shenstone have reflected in the meaning of Advent and the would like to share their thoughts. “The Advent readings invite us to recall our own faith history. We must stay awake and alert to the call in the midst of our society and be willing to help others who may be struggling with their own preoccupations.”

Celebrating our Constitutions

Sisters Hospitallers are immersed in reviewing their constitution. They studied, prayed and reflected on its contents in an atmosphere of fraternal sharing. It was a very enriching experience at a community level. Shenstone and London communities would like to share their conclusions so far. Sr Bernardina concluded by saying ‘we call the constitution our Gospel, living the hospitality as consecrated life in the world.’

Claire Zehe 30 years of Service at Footherley Hall Care Home

Deputy Manager Claire Zehe celebrated an amazing 30 years of service Hall Care Home run by the Sisters Hospitallers. We honoured this very special day by presenting Claire with a card, flowers and gifts from us all. In her speech, Claire talked of how she has always been lucky here and has worked with some really good teams of staff.

Effects of COVID-19 pandemic in the residential care setting

Tina Boyland is the Registered Manager at Christ the King Care Home, and she has shared with us the effects of COVID-19 pandemic in the residential care setting. Also, she told us they are getting prepare for a potential second wave. “We have learnt a lot, experienced changes, felt drained, exhausted and emotionally tested but this will have helped to contribute to our preparation for what may be just around the corner.”

“I love seeing the residents having fun.”

Megan Derry is a senior carer at Christ the King Care Home, Shenstone She has worked for Sisters Hospitallers for 6 years. When Covid-19 was announced, her role changed completely and she became aware of how vital her job was in protecting our vulnerable residents. She said that “I have seen things I have never seen before and been put into situations I never thought I would be put in, but all of this has made me a stronger person”.

Our New Normal

Sisters Hospitallers care home in Shenstone has started allowing one person per family to visit their loved one, this is part of the new normal, as it is wearing face mask all the time. To entertain and cheer up our residents, the picnics outside and walks around the garden are part of our daily life

Activities & Concerts

Our residents at Christ the King had an eventful schedule. They celebrated Bonfire Night, they had their usual activities and enjoyed several performances. It was a bit more special the one from Second Chance Cancer Choir, a wonderful group of ladies have all been touched in some way by cancer and got together to form the choir, visiting places and homes like ours performing purely for donations to raise money for cancer charities.
