Chosen participant of the General Chapter

Sister Isabel Cantón is one of the participants in this year’s General Chapter. In this interview she tells us what she expects from this chapter and how she is facing the Chapter.

What do you expect from the General Chapter?

A deep internal renewal of all the members of the congregation. To always put God at the centre of our lives and to seek at all times his will.

Efficiency, audacity, dedication and professionalism of the governments at the different levels. Seek first and foremost the good of the sick and put them at the centre of our care. In addition, to know, live and transmit hospital values in our daily lives.

What does this event mean for the Congregation?

First of all this event is a time of grace for the whole Congregation, a time of communion, of hope, a time of the Spirit that requires of us, of all of us, to be open, attentive and receptive to the inspirations of the Holy Spirit. To make, with his help, a path of discernment and to put into practice what we see the Lord wants and asks of the Congregation today.

How do you feel and what do you hope this general chapter will bring?

I feel a lot of respect for this challenge and responsibility that is being asked of me, but I abandon myself in the arms of Jesus with trust and hope. I feel a sincere desire to let Him act through me and to do everything in my power to be able to contribute my small grain of sand to continue to build the great edifice of hospitality.

I hope and pray that God’s great plan for the Congregation will be discerned each day and fully realised. May this General Chapter bring to all of us who in some way make up the Hospitaller family the determination to put our talents, our profession, our lives to the great task of alleviating the pain of those whom God places in our path, and may we be another Christ who passes through life doing good and healing the sick. May we be people of hope, joyful and enthusiastic, people grateful for so much good that we are constantly receiving, people open to the new that is constantly springing up around us …
